Chapter 12
Harper
I tried to stop him, but he was too strong. âReid, youâre not driving!â I screamed, digging my heels into the concrete to immobilize myself. He had had far too many drinks to drive, big tough vampire or not.
âHarper, Iâm a vampire. Alcohol flushes through my system a lot quicker than humans. Iâll be sober in less than an hour.â
This was probably true; right now I felt pretty sober too, but I knew it was mostly adrenaline. The point was that as of now, he was still drunk and I wasnât going anywhere with him driving. âReid, Iâm sorry, but I wonât get into a car with you like this. Iâll take a cab and meet you.â
His now normal blue eyes flashed red out of anger. I tried to pull my forearm from his death grip, but he didnât let go. The more I tried to tug my arm free the more he tightened his grip, which felt like he might break my arm.
âDonât push me Harper, because the mood Iâm in is not leaving me capable of dealing with this nonsense at the moment.â He started to drag me towards his vehicle again.
Who the hell did he think he was? He had no right threatening me. He was not the boss of me, or my fucking keeper. I squared my shoulders, staring him straight in his angry red eyes. âLet me go now,â I ordered, but his grip didnât change. âYouâre hurting me! Donât make me make you release me, Reid,â I threatened, and his grip finally subsided. I rubbed my hand over my now red forearm.
âIâm so sorry, Harper. Iâm not myself and I had no right to grab you like that. I lose myself sometimes.â He looked away totally ashamed of himself. Although he seemed sincere, it was never okay for a man to grab a woman like that. Not to mention the fact that he was so much stronger than a conventional man made his actions that much more not acceptable. I was too mad right then to accept his apology.
I kept my distance from him while he waved a cab down. I was drunk, and with all the adrenaline I let my shield go to hear his thoughts. I canât believe I grabbed her. Iâm such an asshole! Fucking alcohol makes me turn so goddamn primitive and become a violent idiot.
Well, it was good to know he was remorsefulâ¦he should be. I was not about to have him telling me what I could and couldnât do, especially in such an aggressive manner. A cab pulled up to the curb and I silently got into the backseat. This was going to be a very long and awkward ride home.

Reid
Once I gave Harperâs address to the cab driver I made sure to influence him so he wouldnât hear any of our conversation, or even remember we were in the cab once he dropped us off. As an added bonus I encouraged him to block out the camera for the duration of our ride.
